چکیده

Introduction In Tunisia the genus Lathyrus is represented by 15 native species , distributed essentially in marginal environments in the north of the country. Many of them are of considerable agronomic interest as forage (L. ochrus and L. articulatus) and as human food (L. cicera and L. sativus). These species are under utilised and in the past little effort has been made to expand the selection and breeding of Lathyrus as a food crop. However, many Lathyrus species have potential as an alternative pulse in many cropping systems as they are tolerant to low rainfall conditions. Research is now being conducted to address aspects of improvement of some species such as L. sativus, including reducing concentrations of the neurotoxin β-N-oxalyl-L-α, βdiaminopropanoic acid (ODAP) in the seed, introducing insect and disease resistance, and increasing yield .

High-resolution mapping and functional analysis of se2.1: a major stigma exsertion quantitative trait locus associated with the evolution from allogamy to autogamy in the genus Lycopersicon.

The degree to which stigmas are exserted above the stamen in flowers is a key determinant of cross-pollination (and hence allogamy) in many plant species. Most species in the genus Lycopersicon are obligate or facultative outcrossers and bear flowers with highly exserted stigmas. In contrast, the cultivated tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum) bears flowers with flush or inserted stigmas promoting ...

Germination pattern of naturally grown Lathyrus and Vicia species to different methods and seedbeds

In many forage legumes, hard seed coat is the main problem impeding thegermination by preventing water and gases transport in seed. We evaluated theeffects of mechanical scarification, chilling, different seedbeds (peat and sand) andtheir combination on the germination ratio and time of 9 naturally grown legumespecies belonging Lathyrus and Vicia genus. Control seeds showed very lowgermination ...

Isolation and Identification of Lathycarpin, a New Pterocarpan Phytoalexin from Lathyrus sativus

Earlier studies [1, 2] have demonstrated that a number of isoflavonoid (pterocarpan) phytoalexins [3] accumulate in excised, fungus-inoculated leaflets of species belonging to the genus Lathyrus (Leguminosae-Papilionoideae; tribe Vicieae). Apart from pisatin (3-methoxy-6a-hydroxy-8,9-methylenedioxypterocarpan, 1), the most commonly en countered Lathyrus phytoalexin, small quantities of three o...
